DISTRICT GOVERNOR DAVID KORY 2007-2008 Crockett Lions Club Lion David was born July 21, 1963, right here in California, not long after his parents immigrated to the United States. Raised with their traditional family values, but in the land of opportunity, Lion David discovered his entrepreneurial spirit early in life. His first regular job, at age 14, was tying string around the Los Angeles Times newspaper in the middle of the night, so they could be delivered first thing in the morning. Earning $17 a week, he wisely put $10 in savings, and kept $7 for spending. He worked nights throughout high school, and started his first business not long after graduating. In the years that followed, he has owned and run a variety of companies, from retail, banking and recording studios in the 80’s, to airports and oil in the 90’s, to real estate, global investment and development in the new century. Lion David has owned companies on 4 continents, been a resident on 3, and is now focused on just the Americas. Lion David has always been involved in his community, and has served as a County Library Commissioner, Airport Commissioner, Public Works Liaison, and on Community Improvement Boards and Chambers of Commerce. Lion David is enjoying his 10th year as a Crockett Lion, where he served as 100% Club President. He has also served our district as Zone Chair, Region Chair, and Administrative Assistant, and on the Membership, Leadership and Extension committees. David is a graduate of the Lions International Leadership Institute, and is also a certified MD-4 Guiding and Rebuilding Lion. Lion David has received 6 Governor’s awards, the International President’s Visionary Leadership Certificate, and the International President’s Leadership Medal. He is a Fred W. Smith Fellow of the Student Speaker’s Foundation, and a Patron of Sight for Lions in Sight. Lion David is a “hands-on” Lion, and has worked on Lions projects in 10 countries around the globe. Lion David is an avid sailor, and enjoys both ocean yacht racing and leisurely cruising with his three teenage daughters. Lion David is proud to be “Leading the Next Generation of Lions” Message from District Governor David Kory I was sitting at an event recently, and a bunch of folks were sitting around complaining about many of the problems and challenges that face us. About all the needs of our communities that go unserved. They were talking about these problems we have, how things need to be fixed, how we need to change the way we think and do things. Naturally, there was disagreement on the severity of the problems, and the potential solutions, but the one thing everyone agreed on, was that somebody should do something about it. I thought about that, and I realized that I can do something about it. And guess what? You are somebody, too. And you can do something to help. Take pride in Lions. Stop complaining about it, and start doing something about it. Be a part of the solution. DG David Kory

LEARNING... So much to learn about this wonderful organization called Lions. When you first join Lions it is all about your club and your friends. You have one friend already, your sponsor, and you find so many new friends, your club members. Then: Someone takes you to your first district event. It may be Special Kid's Day or a cabinet meeting. You gradually learn that being a Lion is more than joining a club in your area; so different, but more new friends. Your world enlarges; with your first MD4 convention then your first International convention. What a huge friendly group of possible friends. All learning from each other and all dedicated to serving others. Now a different type of learning. Watching David as Governor and learning from him. Learning from the other VDG.'s in MD4 visiting those VDG's and making new friends while learning to be a more effective Lion. Listening to the advice of the Past District Governors and learning from them even more new skills. Gradually finding my way through this year of training. Thank your for this chance to learn.
